The Same Scars

Why do they torture me so
When I give them so much love
I am in so much pain
From the paralyzing beatings
My paws are bleeding
Where they’ve stabbed them
Reopening my infected wounds
My head is the throbbing
Where they’ve slammed down on it
I have bruises
Where they’ve beaten me mercilessly
My heart has been shattered
By the hatred they have for me
I have to come when they call my name
Or the beatings just get worse
They laugh at my pain
They mock me endlessly
Oh, why don’t they stop
And love me
With the same endless love
That I have for them
Treat me like I’m something more
Than cruel entertainment
Why can’t they see
That we are just like them
We bleed the same blood
We cry from the same pain
And we die from the same pain
But no matter how horrible they treat me
I will love them forever
Because they gave me a home
